Zanzibar, We are brave

Zanzibar, a beautiful and exotic island archipelago off the coast of Tanzania with a 97% Muslim majority, has faced a rising tide of radical Islamic extremism that threatens its small, 150-year-old Christian minority. This compelling documentary covers the strategic rise of the Islamist group "Uamsho" since 2001, which politicized religion and incited violent attacks, church burnings, and the targeted shootings and acid attacks against Catholic priests. Facing institutional marginalization, silent government compliance, and daily intimidation, the film showcases the immense bravery of local Christians, priests, and missionaries who refuse to flee. Instead, they choose to stay and strengthen their community by investing heavily in education and health centers, providing unbiased aid to elevate the standards of all Zanzibaris, regardless of their faith.
