Egypt, Blessed be Thy people

Although predominantly Muslim, Egypt is home to the largest Christian community in the Arab world—the Copts. Coptic Christianity, tracing its origins back to the Apostle Mark, makes up roughly 10% of Egypt's population. In recent years, following extreme political and economic instability since the 2011 revolution, the rise of turmoil combined with a deeply rooted social intolerance and discrimination against non-Muslims has remained a serious problem. A growing radicalization within the Egyptian Muslim community has also led to severe crimes such as blackmail and kidnapping of Christians, encouraged by a climate of impunity. This insightful film considers the deep historical roots of Coptic Christianity in Egypt and opens the crucial question as to its survival and future.
