He founded the Order of Poor Clerics Regular of the Mother of God of the Pious Schools (Escolapios), now spread throughout the world. He suffered persecution for his ideas and betrayal. Brought before the Holy Office, was deposed from office and saw his work destroyed. It was only restored years after his death. Admired as a precursor of modern pedagogy, he was able to translate into reality the motto instilled into fruitful thousands of disciples, ""piety and letters."" Fundó la Orden de Clérigos Regulares Pobres de la Madre de Dios de las Escuelas Pías (Escolapios), hoy extendida por todo el mundo. Sufrió por su ideal persecuciones y traiciones. Denunciado ante el Santo Oficio, fue depuesto de su cargo y vió destruida su Obra. Sólo fue restaurada años después de su muerte. Admirado como precursor de la pedagogía moderna, logró plasmar en realidad fecunda el lema que inculcó a millares de discípulos: "piedad y letras".
