Father Evaristo Areché, the rector of the Basilica of Higüey, is overseeing the preparations for the traditional festivals celebrating the Virgin of Altagracia, which take place from August to January. He is ensuring the safety of the Altagracia icon throughout this period. This year, for the first time in more than forty years, the Virgin of Altagracia is leaving Higüey to celebrate the centenary of her coronation. Father Evaristo must therefore take on the significant responsibility of safeguarding the revered icon during its transfer and ensuring its return to the altarpiece.
