"In the documentary film “Saint Serafim: Earthly Angel – Heavenly Man” fragments of St. Serafim’s life are deeply intertwined with pictures of life in the contemporary community of saint’s followers in “Red Springs” village – a community founded by his disciple with his blessing. Incessant labour and prayer constitute the base for the community’s way of life. Haymaking, production of the Hosts, and work in the bee-garden – these pictures alternate with spiritual motets, without which this community would be impossible to imagine. At that, it is significant that these people sing not in the church before the altar, but they sing where their souls sing: in the field, during mealtimes, and, of course, during the liturgy. The film is composed of five chapters, which represent the most significant stages of St. Seraphim’s life. Each chapter is anticipated with a fragment of painting St. Seraphim’s icon by contemporary painters. This kind of composition allows the audience to see the saint with the eyes of a contemporary believer, as well as track down the whole history of emergence and development of the communities, founded with the blessing, or by St. Serafim himself.
