The Akhatist Hymn. Salutation to Mary

Broadcast within the series:'Illuminations', the program underlines the importance of the Virgin Mary in the Greek Orthodox Church. 'Akhatyst', the ancient hymn of the Byzantine rite, praises the Mother of God with words full of poetry and devotion. Throughout the program we follow these words which are sung during various Greek Orthodox liturgies, especially during the Lent period. In the interview with the Greek-Orthodox Bishop of Teos, the viewer discovers the history and the meaning of the hymn. It is an occasion also to contemplate numerous icons.
