Church Commitment To Broadcasting Radio Ecclesia In Various Communities

The process of extending the signal of the Angolan Catholic radio station Radio Ecclesia is currently underway in Angola which, from the capital Luanda, can now reach more remote provinces.
In a statement sent to Agenzia Fides, the vice-president and spokesperson of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé (CEAST), Mgr. José Manuel Imbamba, Archbishop of Saurimo, said that “we are working hard to ensure that the word of the Gospel can reach other dioceses”. According to Mgr. Imbamba, however, the implementation process is slow due to the “obsolete state of some radio equipment”. The Archbishop of Saurimo, capital of the Angolan province of Lunda-Sul, stressed with satisfaction that, thanks to the diligent commitment “even the faithful of other dioceses will be able to listen to the Catholic station”.
The permanent formation and expansion of the Radio Ecclesia network to the whole of Angola had been among the topics under discussion at the CEAST Plenary Assembly in Ndalatando in 2016 (see Fides 3/3/2016).
Currently, on an experimental basis, Radio Ecclesia radio broadcasts already reach five of the 18 Angolan provinces: Benguela, Lunda-Sul, Bengo, Moxico, Malanje, and Kuando-Kubango. After years of limitation to the capital Luanda alone, the extension of the radio signal was sanctioned by the public announcement of the Angolan President, according to the Radio Broadcasting Law. After the approval for the expansion of Radio Ecclesia of Luanda signal for the entire country, the dioceses are committed to “materializing this desire” in order to be in communion also through communication and to be able to make use of this instrument of evangelization.
